Over the past few weeks, I have been listening to a lot of Jazz and Fusion Artists.

Just last night, i watched Johnny Alegre last night at the Rj Bar in Jupiter, Makati. What was funny was that it was only myself and the friend in the audience! Like there was absolutely no one in the gig, save ourselves, the band, a group of people who weren't there for the gig and who left early, and the bar staff. Ironically, it was the most amazing gig I have ever watched. I couldn't help but be astounded by Johnny Alegre's playing, and the music they created! They even played Sunny from Pat Martino, as requested by me, one of my favorites! Thank you so much for being accomodating and kind, Mr. Johnny Alegre!

(I hope you read this, johnny: No, as I said last night, I shall not be discouraged to attend your gigs regardless if there are people or not. I come for the music and nothing else). That gig did nothing else but inspire me to actually study Jazz guitar and take it seriously. However, I think I'll concentrate on fusion, given that my roots are more from rock-based music. haha

Anyhow, I have also begun to listen and love music from certain artists whom I have, sadly only recently been aquainted with. These are John Coltrane, Scott Henderson and Tribal Tech, Stanley Clarke and Vertu (I have been a big fan of Richie Kotzen for quite some time already) and

Lately, I've been extremely depressed. I've spent the past few weeks in pain; sleepless nights, drowning myself with alcohol and music among other things which (I think) would help me escape from things and ease the pain which I tried hard to hide. So many things have been happening simultaneously, and these things have somewhat taken their toll. No matter what I did, people have been saying that I seem shrouded with so much negative energy. And they're right.

I am in pain, which I can't help but think that I deserve. To top it all off, the person who I've spent the longest amount of time with has moved on with another guy. Which is perfectly normal, understandable, and even well deserved. Because above everything, I know that I was responsible for the failure of that relationship. But for some reason, I wallow in pain. Despite all logical explanations, aside from the fact that it has ended a long time ago and such, I am still affected. Call it pride. Call it ego. Call it selfishness. The bottom line is I am in pain. I feel alone. I feel helpless.

Because of it, I have been resorting to a lot of defense mechanisms: the feeling to hatred, extreme metal music, arrogance, alcohol, films, etc. All these things, in one way or another have helped me survive over the past few weeks. I ceased to communicate with a lot of my friends; spending most of my time locked inside my room, or spent a lot of time learning new and difficult guitar licks and tricks until my fingers hurt. I’ve been “playing” in gigs, but what I’ve been really trying to do is “outplay” others, thinking that the guitar and music is my world, I am untouchable with it, and it’s one aspect of my life that I can’t be defeated upon. But in reality, I’ve been lying to myself. The truth is, I've been hiding behind my guitar. All these things have done nothing more but give me temporary help, similar to how painkiller would do for 4 hours or a bit more. But after everything, nothing is solved and reality crashes in.

I have been hiding behind all these things because I have been refusing to accept reality. The control freak in me refuses to accept that there are things beyond me and my control. Outside, I want to act strong, "metal," righteous, and capable- which in turn makes me act like an arrogant, so sure of himself, mean and heartless bastard. But deep inside, I'm a wreck-helpless, in pain, uncertain, sad and lonely.

That is, hopefully, until today. Because just this morning, I realized that I have forgotten or failed to do the single most important thing that I should have done in the first place—ask for God’s help. During these past few months, all my other activities in life had overshadowed my faith. In addition, I’ve been avoiding the church I used to go to, because we used to go there together. Which, I’m sure disappoints God very much, and is a very wrong way of thinking. I’m sure that all these months, God was talking to me. Sadly, I have been too occupied to listen.

As I am writing this, I am still in pain. But, somehow, knowing that God is there makes me feel a lot better. Because all of a sudden, I realize that I am not alone in this- that despite the fact that my way of thinking over the past few weeks has been “no amount of advice or help from other people can’t help me,” I know and feel that God can. For some of you who are reading this and get somewhat weirded out, I am not going to be an evangelist nor do I think am I going to be qualified to do so.

Today, I will attempt to start a new life. I will look forward instead of looking back. I will try to appreciate everything I have in life. I will take things one day at a time, and grab all opportunities that come my way. I’ll do my best and reflect positive energies. And above everything else, I will acknowledge and thank God for the life I live, and do my best to always have Him by my side.

I’m ending this by quoting my very good friend Boyong with what he said when I was sharing some of my issues: “yeah, in hate, there is no sadness. But there is no joy either.”

1. What is your favorite metal genre?
- I like all metal genres except the so called "nu metal." But there are a few who are ok, like Lamb of God for example. However, I think that they belong to the New wave of American Metal, which is a totally different sub genre not related to the former, in any way.

2. Do you like Lars Ulrich?
- For Metallica's sake, he's ok. Not a big fan though. I have always liked Megadeth more.

3. Last Album you bought/Downloaded?
- I'm back to my old school thrash indulgences. Demolition Hammer and Sodom Discography.

4. Last gig you attended?
- Last gig? I saw Intolerant last Saturday.

5. Last gig you missed?
- Hmm. I really don't know. Haven't been paying attention to the scene lately.

6. Favorite American Band?
- For American Metal, it would be a tie between Morbid Angel, Pantera, Testament, Vital Remains, Malevolent Creation and Suffocation, Dio, Symphony X... The list goes on! These are just some of the US bands that I have always liked. haha

7. Favorite Norwegian Band?
- It would probably be Emperor, Burzum and Darkthrone. Old Mayhem and Gorgoroth are ok as well.

8. Age you started listening to metal?
- I don't remember. probably 11 or 12.

9. First CD you bought?
- I don't remember. It would probably be either Pantera or Slayer.

10. Favourite metal filmclip?
- Too many choices. I like old school metal videos, mostly. But what comes to mind is Morbid Angel's God of Emptiness video.

11. Favourite metal guy/girl?
- Hahaha. i can name a lot of them too. Phil Anselmo and Dime? Also, I'm a big David Vincent fan. (the pre-Domination era). I also used to like Chris Barnes during his old CC era. I hate SFU though.

12. Do you know how to growl like Corpsegrinder?
- I'm not sure. I can do Chris Barnes though.

- I have a lot. My favorite would be my Morbid ANgel Formulas Fatal to the Flesh Shirt.

- It depends. Vinyls are (ya)KVLT, and old school releases are cool. I am not a collector of Vinyl's though. I'm not that old and my not (ya)KVLT.

- Right now, they would be:

- No. Nocturno Kulto and Fenriz are still ug as ever. They never compromised their music and never cared what other thought of them. I have always been a big Darkthrone Fan since Transilvanian Hunger and a Blaze in the Northern Sky.

- In League with Satan. (and also In the name of Satan, Ave Satanas, etc. I don't like following instructions, hahaha)

- Depends on which subgenre. My dad appreciatesd it everytime I play Judas Priest and Sabbath.

- Not necessarily. Some people make it gay.

- Like live live? I can't tell.. but I'm a fan of Barabbas, LOC, Nuclear Punishment, DFTW and End of Man.

- Hmmm... Lately, I really admire how Barabbas and LOC have evolved. I think they are the best, technically, song writing wise and Attitude wise. Destroy!

- Dimebag Darell, Chuck Schuldiner, Randy Rhoads and Cris Oliva.

27. Do keyboards belong in metal?
- Depends on the subgenre. In power, prog and doom, it's ok. I don't like it in black metal.

- Not really. Man O War is cool though.

- For me, there wasn't any really. I did get into a fight in the mosh ones. I broke his face.

-Hmmm... I'd say Rose Tatoo and Mortification. Destroyer 666 is ok as well.

- Both are ok.

- Not recently.

- Welll, the guy did get a lot of attention because of it and Norweigian Black Metal became Norway's main cultural export because of the incident (aside from Dead's suicide and the Church Burnings)..but no, it didn't 'rule.'

- no. I don't give a damn about him and won't waste my time.

- It depends. I have moods for both.

- Hmmm... I was listening to a lot of Vai back in the Days during college when I hung out with the Brickwall pals I had. We used to take long walks, and I'd listen attentively (using Chino's i-pod) to Steve Vai's divebombs and note selections.

- Hahaha. nope. i'd be really abnormal if I became sad because of a death metal track/song.

The other day was one of the most hectic or busy days for me, because I was tasked to interview around a dozen applicants. A lot of them didn't quite qualify, and I was getting a bit frustrated with how things were coming out. But my mood changed when the last applicant came in my office:

When she entered the room, it felt like time had stopped, and that the heavens sang: she was an angel...she was a certified hottie! Like a really cute chinita good girl hottie! And she smelled really good!

And as the gago manager and person that I was, I hired her before the interview ended. Yes, I do abuse my power every once in a while...

But I can back it uo to anyone who would dare question me: Her writing samples were really good. I mean REALLY GOOD! (based on the writing test descriptors that I use, as well as the objective test I gave her).

Coincidentally, one of the writers whom I have hired previously had to postpone her starting date with our company. So, there was one slot in the office for me to fill up.

And I guess I don't have to mention who I had in mind. In fact, I even held a conference with our main office directors with regards to her emplyment, and after almost an hour of discussions, they agreed to give her the priority hire signal.

So, I called this applicant to inform her that she could start immediately. But to my dissapointment, she informed me that she would no longer be pursuing her application, because she will be studying abroad. And I was sad.... :( (bye bye..)

Lesson learned: Never even think about hitting on an applicant. You might end up being really dissapointed. Nah.. More importantly...Avoid being attracted to an applicant or an employee and maintain professionalism at all times. yeah right!

Hmmm... I really can't tell. To tell you honestly, Im not a big fan of any local band, so I guess I'd have a hard time saying which one. Maybe, the last Faster Than Satan gig we ever did, the one in Villamore Airbase. That was fucking crazy.

What's the worst show you've ever been to?
One memorable UP fair where we were supposed to play, but this stupid sellout band just stepped on stage, despite the fact that they were scheduled to play 5 bands after they did. And the gig was cancelled because there was a wild riot and someone died during that gig. I was on stage already to kick the said band's vocalist's ass. That was a fucked up night indeed. I have absolutely no respect for that band, playing all that crappy novelty noise.

What's the most musically involved you have ever been?
I breath music. I am currently concentrating on my death grind/jazz band, Deflower. I also have an instrumental/shred/prog band which Im currently writing material for, in preparation for the next guitar adrenaline. I was told that I'll be lined up. I'm currently experimenting on a lot of jazz fusion/atonal legato runs.

What is your favorite band shirt?
I guess it would be my Morbid Angel Formulas Fatal to the Flesh Tour Shirt. I also like my Nile-In their Darkened Shrines Shirt

What musician would you like to hang out with for a day?
Guthrie Govan or Greg Howe. I'm sure I'll learn a lot from them. They are currently my favorite guitar players. I'd also like to hangout with Dimebag. He'll teach me how to concoct a black tooth grin drink with Jack Daniels.

Who is one musician or group(s) you wish would make a comeback?
Pantera. The best metal there was. The best there is. Probably the best there ever will be.
